Time++ by Raven Kwok
The work that I have chosen to focus on is Time++ by Raven Kwok. The work itself is an installation piece that displays a wide arrangement of numbers, and as time passes, the number of seconds within the minute it's in appears. After 60 seconds, the big clock that features on it changes the minute. After each hour that passes, on the hour, a sound plays as it hits. The installation itself is large, and gives an interesting sense of looming. Like time and the passage thereof is looming over us, unable to be stopped and ever present. The darkness of the display and colorfulness of the light-driven numbers also gives an inverse sense of time helping us find our way in the dark. Overall, if I were in the same room as this display, it would feel extremely powerful. The video that captures the display in effect tends to use still captures more than anything, with a couple of jump cuts in order to show us the moments we want to see the most: when time reaches a full minute, and when time reaches a full hour.
