Korei Curtis Weekly Response 7
Korei Curtis
Week 7 Response For this weeks post, I watched Matthew Barney's, “The Cremaster Cycle" trailer. I picked this one because it wasn't too long and also seemed interesting. My first initial thought when watching it for the first time was that it looked like if Dr. Seuss's characters were brought to life and lived in modern times now (in 1994-2002). I had to rewatch it to get a better outlook on it and found some interesting parts to it. These "cycles" had a weird aesthetic to them and had many mini films in it showing different type of things. He showed this not only cinematically, but also through the photography, drawings, sculptures, and installations. Basically it was somewhere in between traditional film and art installation. Most of the characters in this are in an animal humanoid form. They were usually oddly dressed and trying to accomplish some sort of strange task. They did things like walking 2 air blimps on a football field, be underwater just looking around, and/or sitting on a pedestal licking their hand like a cat. It was very weird but interesting to watch.

This video was really strange and made me sort of uncomfortable but I think thats what makes videos cool, when they invoke some form of emotion
ReplyDeleteI really liked your response. I also found this video interesting and weird. Dr. Suess is a really good comparision

DeleteHi Korei! This video was very bizarre but I definitely felt like it all fit, in a weird way. I can see how you drew up the comparison with Dr. Seuss giving its mysterious yet whimsical nature. The use of different media/ art forms meshed well together.
