The Casting exhibit is intriguing. He recorded an interview that he did with a military member to talk about his experiences in war. The artist then reenacted the stories that the military member told. However, the people in the reenactments didn't move in the videos. They stood still in different positions, and the artist cut those clips together to tell the story. Another thing the artist did was alter some of the stories. He cut individual words from the interview and edited them together, taking the words out of context. In the physical exhibit, the reenacted scenes are on one side of the projection screens, and the interview video is on the other side.
Personally, I think it's unethical to take the person's words out of context and completely manufacture a story, unless he told the person that it would happen. The artist acknowledges that all the cuts in the video make it obvious that his words are mangled, but still. The idea for the reenactments is interesting. Instead of them lip-syncing or following along to the story, the artist is more responsible for making a cohesive story with editing.
