Project 3_Kevin Garcia
This is the sketch I drew representing sound art. It is supposed to signify the different sound sources that we encounter all the time. Some of them are big and loud, like music playing on a speaker. Some are small and quiet, like whispered conversations.
I was having trouble figuring out what I was going to do for the project. However, this week I figured it out. I recorded ten seconds of the ticking sound and the ding of my toaster oven's timer, which I will loop throughout the video as a motif. I also recorded various sounds around campus and my apartment. Every time the ding goes off, I will play a different clip from the sound recordings. For the visual effect, I was thinking about using the video from the sound recordings. However, to keep it abstract, I decided to have a full screen gradient with dots appearing on the screen. The dots will appear in time to the sounds.

Right now, I have set up the repeating ticking sound, the background colors, and the dots. I will continue to work on adding the additional sound clips, as well as the additional dots to sync with the other sounds.
November 9:
Over the past week, I have been recording sounds that I encounter on a daily basis, like a shower, a microwave, and typing on a keyboard. I've added these sounds into the video. I added additional dots to the screen to coordinate with the additional sounds. The sound will change every 10 seconds, when the ding sound I talked about above goes off. Also, all the dots disappear and the background color changes every 10 seconds as well. Before I finish, I need to record a few more sounds and add them in.
| The extra audio clips are in the A3. The dots that go with the extra audio are in white. The dots from the timer sound are more transparent. |
November 10:
I recorded the final sound clips and added them in, along with adding the colors and dots. All of the clips together represent a typical school day. The final product is two minutes long.
