Week_10_Response_Simons
For this week, I am responding to the Sound Installation for Robot Garden, and also I added a video I found at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IpAJD-urA8&list=PLu-vxrbGBRjsxQU02pC3EbwIaHwhGJsqF
Ryoji Ikeda, Datamatics, en LABoral
Both of these clips are pretty similar. There are abstract noises occurring and people area allowed to mingle amidst some larger scale visuals that compliment the noise. I've seen a few examples of interesting sound art, however, as a musician, I find this idea of sound art to be incredibly irritating. It just feels like the visuals are still the main draw for viewers. Sound art should be sound first, and I don't think either of these works achieve that. If I was taking part in the exhibition of their art, I would be most captivated by the visuals. The sounds are way too simple and abstract.
