Week 2 Response- Mary Shepherd
All videos seem to have different meanings and yet I was drawn into all of them. Some with questioning and others with excitement. Two that I found interested me the most were Roman Signer: Seesicht/Lake View. Kunsthaus Zug and Kiesza – Hideaway. The fact that this piece that Dug videotaped is in a city by water. They put that there to connect both us and the environment together. It gives us humans a chance to basically be free in their world and see what they see from their own perspective. I loved everything about it, but I did hear a kid and maybe an adult in the background, which makes me want to question why there is not a sign-up to only go group by group. I got to view the fish as if I was in the water myself swimming with them. The piece itself is kind of like a metal door bringing you into another world.
Another video that strikes my attention was the Kiesza. She had so much power in that video. It is kind of similar to the other video because they are bringing us along. Hers was also a one-take so she had no breaks showing the commitment with the music and staying fired up like the song intends the audience to feel. The only thing I would change is there were a few things in the back that were obviously not intended to be there. For instance, women going on a run. It broke my connection with the random different dancers. It was tied in well because the backup dancers all came out at different times.
