Roman Signer: Seesicht / Lake View. Kunsthaus Zug - Brandon Levin

This week's video response is on Roman Signer's, " Seesicht/Lake View." The video begins with a panning across a beautiful landscape of a lake, mountains, wild life, and pedestrians in the foreground followed by a view of the scenery is Signer's instillation. The artwork consists of a metal door leading the viewer down a staircase to a glass view inside the lake, showing various types of fish and algae. I enjoyed the video because of the calming nature and scenery and simplicity of the art instillation. I put myself into the perspective of the camera man to have an aquarium view inside the instillation. In my opinion, I think Signer created the instillation as a way to conjoin the community and pedestrians of the park with the marine life inside the lake. Regarding the video, I believe the camera man should have started off the video panning from left to right showing the instillation at first. As beautiful as the scenery was, it was a bit off-putting and made the viewer wonder what the instillation was that the video was referring to. I also believe the video overextended its viewer interest. The fish were pleasing to look at, but the camera man showed less of the actual instillation and more of the fish. The video would provide the same effect to the viewer regardless of the time. Regarding the instillation itself, it was amusing, but would have been more aesthetically pleasing with lights or color instead of the oblique metal bars and stone wall.
