Mary Shepherd -week 7 response

In the first video, I already loved the strong color amounts showing more darkness to enhance the main focal point. In around 20 seconds, it changes to the figure very small as if it is far away. That felt almost like an illusion because at first, I did not know it was a person until I watched it come closer. It almost felt as if I was watching a play.  The transition of that to a collage-like scene was not subtle. It kind of acted sexually in a way with the behind of the girl images and the ball. That could be y favorite video so far this semester because of all the different videos made into one. At the beginning of the third video by Gary Hill, the whole time I was trying to understand what the voice was saying, but I think it was random. He put a tunnel and bridge together, which to me symbolized transportation, however in different contexts. The voice I feel got more creepy as the time went on in that video.

  1. It was very interesting to read your post about the videos for the week. The first video was hard to understand, but you made points that cleared a lot up. The beginning scene was visually compelling with the screen slowly coming towards us. I also liked how you discussed the third video because I also talked about it in my post. I did not notice the transportation symbolism but now that you point it out it makes sense. The voice-over made the whole video have a creepy vibe which we both agreed on.

  2. I also did my post about the first video. I totally agree that the strong color in parts of the video contrasted super well with the scenes that were filmed in darkness; I think the play on light and shadow was one of the most interesting parts of the video. The collage scenes were the most confusing to me; I couldn't grasp the connection, if there was one.
