Week 5 Response

This week I wanted to try something different for my response. I watched the video twice and I am going to watch it once again and basically commentate each scene.

The video starts off with a shot of the actual installation with people watching and the 3 monitor display. Each monitor is playing the same thing at the same time at this moment. This is when it changes to direct footage and shots of the animals. It was a surprise not only cause it was a whole bison, but you expect people in motels, not animals. I enjoy how they let the animals do their own thing and the transition with the broken lamp lighting up to a new lamp was mysterious. The shot with the horse watching horses on the tv, then the close-up on his eyes made it seem like you intruded on the animal doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing. Similar to a child looking at boobs and you are the disappointed parent who comes in without knocking. I did not enjoy the deer drinking the pool water though, it might be harmful. The scene with the beaver in the bathtub and the cougar in the bed were weirdly sensual and I hated it, but the beaver's little hands were adorable. After the beaver, it cuts back to the three monitors and the screen shows a lamp. Except the screens are out of sync and each sector lights up and darkens at different times which is interesting to look at. There is then a shot of a weirdly bright room, and the video then gets ominous. The owl with all the feathers around him made me think he had just found out what was in those pillows and he is having a midlife crisis.  The screens are then back in sync and the owl flies away as the video ends. It was a lovely transition for the ending and I greatly enjoyed the beautiful animals. I also learned that the colored lights outside of those rooms are there because unnaturally colored lights do not attract bugs!
