Week 7 Response -- Bentley Hendrix
The Machinist's Lament
I thought this video was one of the most interesting for this week; the beginning was really interesting to watch, with the entirely black background and the subject's black outfit. During the video, it was super interesting to see the way the light danced on the metal objects that the subject was moving. Each movement revealed a new facet to the object. It got even more interesting as the video transformed into more of a graphic/illustrated work. It was like watching a collage in video form. The relevance of each part of the video was a little hard to understand, but it was engaging to watch.

I agree that this video was very cool to watch! I also didn't really understand the meaning of the video, but sometimes videos don't need a meaning to be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love how you said that the light danced off the objects because it truly did. The light was only able to see when bounced on the objects. The person when moving gave that light to shine to let us focus completely on the object itself. It showed how industry will return, which I noticed when the hands with black gloves started moving the pipes and tools to give to things like dogs.
ReplyDeleteI thought your post described the video very well. After researching this video, the simple visual effects are supposed to reflect a world where everything is easier. The simple background gives the characters and tools room to be showcased. The video was pieced together like a montage but still had a cohesive feeling. I agree that this video is hard to understand but a little background helped the video make more sense.
