Week 8 Response Kailey Gaskin
While I do love Jim Carey, for this week I chose to respond to Omer Fast's "The Casting". For the first few seconds I thought the video was frozen or broken, but then the sound started and shot changed. I thought it was an interesting way to tell the a story and I sort of want to take inspiration from it in another project I do for this class. I watched this video before the "Looking Pretty for God" video so I was really confused. I had no idea that the story being told wasn't one consecutive story. I think the faked stills are very interesting since he could have just taken actual shots and displayed them. In the beginning there is obvious movement because some people cannot stay completely still and sway a little but also Fast seemed to allow the actors to stay comfortable by blinking. He did not seem to try hiding any natural movement from humans staying still. Further into the video he is filming outside and there is external factors causing movement such as the wind and there is no way to control that so he leaves it in. I feel like it adds some sort of irony to the stills. After watching this one I watched the "Looking Pretty for God" it gave background to "The Casting". Honestly, I don't know how I feel about him splicing footage from multiple interviews, but I guess it is ok if there was consent and like he said the change of clothes between cuts makes it obvious.
