I attended "La bella dormenta nel bosco" in the Carter Recital Hall on October 29th. I have never attended an opera before but have attended orchestras and choir performances in the past. I really enjoyed the show. It combined beautiful singing, dancing and theatrical performance, special effects like lighting and bubbles, as well as a small orchestra just off stage playing live music. They're use of a projector was really smart displaying the translations of the opera above the stage to further progress the story. I dislike when people say they don't enjoy any form of media that's outside of their native tongue because so much emotion and talent was poured out in the singing of this show, regardless of if you could understand what was being sung. I will definitely be looking out for more performances in the future from the Georgia Southern Opera group.
